Joanne Turnier is an award winning nurse who has been practicing nursing for over 28 years. Throughout her career she has worked in diverse practice settings and healthcare organizations. Her passion for nursing, and years of experience caring for patients and families brings her to the coaching, teaching and consulting she does today.

Joanne began her career in Nursing in Neonatal Intensive Care, and has since worked with patients and families across the lifespan. Program development is an area Joanne has refined throughout her nursing career. As a Neuroscience nurse, she cared for patients and families confronted with neurological disorders and launched a number of programs that provided care and support to patients and families in crisis due to sudden onset of illness, trauma and sudden death.  Her leadership as Stroke Coordinator was instrumental in Northwell Health’s achievement of New York State Stroke Designation and the Joint Commission’s Certificate of Distinction for Primary Stroke Centers.

Joanne has also served as the Director of Health Literacy and Patient Education for Northwell Health, providing consultation and health literacy education throughout Northwell Health.

As a Holistic Nurse Joanne understands the mind body connection and she is passionate about helping nurses and other health professionals bridge the gap between knowing the importance of self-care and actually implementing a realistic plan for self-care. This is especially important in the current health care arena. Many nurses and health professionals are leaving healthcare because they are overextended, stressed and overworked.  Many have lost their passion and have expressed feeling “fraudulent.” Joanne is committed to helping these individuals stand in their truth and rekindle their passion for their work.

In 2015, Joanne achieved her Doctorate in Nursing Practice Degree from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio and maintains a number of  board certifications including, Adult Clinical Nurse Specialist, Holistic Nurse and Health and Wellness Nurse Coach. She manages a private health and wellness coaching practice in Northport, NY.  She continues to serve as faculty for the International Nurse Coach Association, Miami, Florida and Adjunct Faculty for St. Joseph’s College in Patchogue, New York. Joanne is a consultant for Northwell Health’s Center for Wellness and Integrative Medicine and other hospitals throughout Long Island. She continues to work with lay people and health professionals who would like to make positive changes in their lives.  She is a national and international speaker.

Joanne’s philosophy is that lasting change happens from within and that each individual is responsible for his or her own health, happiness and sense of well-being. Somewhere along the way people have become disconnected from the soulful part of self which has caused great personal suffering in some or all aspects of life.

It does not have to be this way, people can lead full, productive lives and gain a sense of well-being no matter their circumstance.  When we choose to live a mindful life we become keenly awareness of our choices and gain the ability to tap into our inner wisdom. As human beings we do this best in community when we feel loved and supported.

Joanne’s presentations, training programs and consulting focus on:

  • Nurse Coaching
  • Self-care for Health Professionals
  • The Integration of Nurse Coaching- Transforming Healthcare through Innovative Partnerships.
  • Introduction to the practice of Healing Circles
